Shianne's dedication to cultural exchange and musical diplomacy is exemplified through her active involvement in the "Banding Together" initiative, facilitating cross-cultural understanding through musical collaborations in Colombia, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Notably, her trip to Havana, Cuba marked an unprecedented partnership between the US Embassy and the Cuban Institute of Music.
In 2022, she was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Musicology and Ethnomusicology program under Dr. Robert Fry, a position she currently holds. Furthermore, she accepted a fellowship with the Vanderbilt University Special Collections and University Archives, on the life and work of Dr. Yusef A. Lateef.
When not immersed in the world of music, you can find Shianne making oboe reeds or tending to her many, many plants.

Chicago Summer Opera 2024
A Non-Profit Organization with a mission to provide world class training to gifted artists and to offer accessible high quality performances to our community. At Chicago Summer Opera, we offer training in role preparation, vocal technique, dramatic preparation, audition technique, and stage movement. Each singer either receives a full role or cover role. Productions are staged and performed with orchestra. Covers will have a cover run staged with piano. This combination of training helps developing singers grow immensely in a short period of time.

My favorite performance to date happened this past May in the Dominican Republic. I was playing with the Orquesta Dominicana de Vientos at the annual Festi-band awards ceremony. We played a piece native to Colombia called “Son de la Lloma.” This piece has heavy significance to the people of Colombia. It so happened that half of our crowd (well over 500 I might add) had traveled from there, and while we played it they got up and started dancing and singing along. It was amazing to see the crowd connect with the music. That was one of those moments that confirmed the power of music and why I do what I do.
